According to a new poll, more than half of the UK population would like to ban gambling advertisements. In a survey conducted for the charity Gambling with Lives, 52% of respondents said they supported a ban on all gambling advertising, promotion and sponsorship, and nearly two-thirds wanted new restrictions on online betting.
Carolyn Harris, Labor chairwoman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Gambling Related Harm (APPG), said that the top 10 percent of players bring in 79 percent of gambling operators’ revenues in Britain.
- “The gambling industry creates jobs and pays money into the economy. No one wants it destroyed, but it needs to be changed to be more accountable and produce less obscene profits.“
APPG wants the measures to include a ban on sports advertising, the appointment of a new gambling ombudsman, a maximum bet of £2 on online slots, a ban on VIP schemes and a mandatory fee.
